Doggie DNA Testing

Posted in: Body, Informational, Pawz Newz — The Pawz Cauze @ 11:50 am

Can you believe it?  This morning I was watching the Early Show on CBS and learned all about testing your dog’s DNA to find out what breed it is!  Canine Heritage Breed DNA Test is now available and can test for 38 breeds as of this morning.  They are hoping to have results available for over 100 breeds by this fall.

All it takes is a sample you obtain by swabbing the inside of your dog’s mouth then send it in with the fee of $65.00 plus shipping and handling.  In 4-6 weeks, you find out what breed your dog is or is not.

Well, I just thought this was interesting and figured I’d pass on the word.  My questions are:

1. When will we hear about DNA testing for cats?

2. Why is this necessary?

3.  How many animals suffered to bring us this technology?

You all know I just have to ask those important questions to ensure all animals are treated with respect, love, and abuse free.  I’m curious as to the process they needed to take in order to find out the DNA breakdown of each breed.  I know it would require tons of DNA samples and 100s of man hours to break down and analyze this information.  Hhhhmmmmmm……..money I feel could have been used in a better manner.

So there you go.  I looked at it from several angles to give you something to ponder on.  I’d love to hear your views on the subject.  Animal helpful or animal cruelty to get to this place?

Another Falcon arrested for 2nd time animal abuse

Posted in: Animal Welfare Issues, Animal Cruelty Issues, Informational, Pawz Poopz — The Pawz Cauze @ 9:07 am

Another Atlanta Falcon Player accused of animal cruelty!!!!!

On February 18, 2007, Atlanta Falcons’ Jonathan Babineaux beat to death his live-in girlfriend’s dog, Kilo, a one-year-old pit bull mix. The motive was apparent retaliation against his girlfriend, Blair Anderson, for an argument she and Babineaux had earlier that same night.

After the argument, Anderson left the house, leaving her two dogs, Kilo and Ace, with the Falcons’ defensive lineman. Not long after, Babineaux phoned Anderson to inform her that something was wrong with Kilo. He advised that she should come home and check on him. Anderson returned home to find Kilo in extreme physical distress. Anderson rushed Kilo to the vet but he was dead on arrival. Autopsy results showed Kilo died from blunt force trauma to the head, leading Gwinnett County police to arrest and charge Babineaux with felony cruelty to animals. The second dog, Ace, was later removed from the Babineaux household and placed in the care of Animal Control.

In spite of the felony charge, Babineaux remains free on $2,300 bond and is still actively playing for the Falcons. To date, Babineaux has received no punishment or suspension from either the Falcons or the NFL.

Blogger William K. Wolfrum aptly sums up the glaring hypocrisy which now enshrouds the Atlanta Falcons:

Babineaux is currently in the Falcons pre-season camp, obviously keeping a low profile.

Simply put, however, as long as Babineaux is allowed to play with the Falcons while Vick is forced to sit out, the NFL’s and the Falcons’ treatment of Vick can only be seen as a PR ploy. It has nothing to do with ethics, or a standard of character they want from their players.

As long as Babineaux remains active, the NFL and the Falcons are little more than hypocrites whose hands were forced in the Vick case.

PLEASE SIGN THE PEITION FOR JUSTICE FOR KILO AND SEND A CLEAR MESSAGE THAT THIS TYPE OF CRUELTY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED:
