Slashed Cat Needs Help

It was a call that will leave us with nightmares; but our pain is no where near to what “Scatt” endured. The good news? We believe he will recover.

“A cat,” the sheriff’s deputy told us, panic in his voice, “has been hurt so horribly, I can’t even look at the wounds.”

The veteran deputy who had investigated murders, now faced an animal cruelty case of untold horror. “Scatt”, he told us, was a therapy cat who resided at a church, just south of Seattle, Washington. He spent the last decade helping those who were trying to turn their lives around. In the end, one of those very people turned on him.

BROKEN RIBS – 8” KNIFE WOUND – PERFORATED LUNG –

It is a story of profound sadness, but thanks to those who acted quickly, Scatt may survive.

“Scatt” was a homeless cat who found his way to the doorstep of The Cross Church in South Seattle. The people there named him Scatt, for when they first told him to find his way home, he simply wouldn’t leave. And it was a good thing – he found kindness, and a forever home in the arms of the church staff and volunteers.

Over the last ten years, he became a “therapy cat” for humans who too were homeless, and like Scatt, down on their luck. He provided unconditional love to those who had nothing, and would curl up in the laps of complete strangers, purring.

Today, one of the very rehabilitation clients he helped, viciously attacked Scatt, nearly gutting him.

PERP ARRESTED!
According to The Cross Church’s Rehabilitation Director (who was “Scatt’s boss” during therapeutic sessions with the homeless or indigent) the perpetrator admitted to attacking Scatt. Sheriff’s deputies quickly arrested the man and booked him on First Degree Felony Animal Cruelty charges - punishable up to five years in jail and a $10,000 fine. The man, they learned, had multiple outstanding warrants against him.

Pasado’s Safe Haven teams up with veterinarians
It’s great news to know that the coward who allegedly attacked this innocent being, is in a jail cell. The courts will take care of him. But now, we need to take care of Scatt.

We need your help to support the life-saving care needed for Scatt, who is in the care of an excellent veterinary team at a south Seattle veterinary hospital. Scatt has already endured surgery to close the 8” “collarbone to tail” wound that was inflicted with a knife. His prognosis is “guarded”, the vets told us, and “optimistic”. We have every paw crossed that this little guy will make it.

Will you help? Any amount would be so appreciated.
Please donate here.

No adoption – Scatt’s church “family” wants him back – they adore him!
In addition to paying for Scatt’s medical bills, we asked if he needed long-term care at Pasado’s Safe Haven, and even an adoptive home. “No, we love him!” we were told. His family, for the last ten years, wants him back. And although we’d love to be able to wrap our arms around him and help him into his future, we know that the church, and the humans there, are his family. We’re just glad we can make him whole by helping with the medical bills. Thanks to you.

Please check pasadosafehaven.org frequently. We’ll be posting updates and photos often.
And thank you for this little being, who most likely walked up to the man who hurt him,
thinking he was his friend.

PLEASE DONATE HERE, and keep hoping that that “optimistic” prognosis comes true.

The only way that we can help animals is with your help. With your help we can continue getting down and dirty in the trenches to save animals. Pasado’s does what the other animal orgs do not and filling the voids left unanswered by shelters: 24-hour rescue, cruelty investigations, prosecution and convictions of perpetrators of animal cruelty, writing and passing record numbers of animal cruelty laws, pet sterilization, senior animal adoption and sanctuary to factory farm animals. Pasado’s saves those sentient beings that no one else does.

Well, Denver did it again, folks!  Only this time they broke a fence to get to the dog to STEAL it, then returned the dog, threatening to euthanize him due to his characteristics of a Pit Bull.  THEN they busted in on this poor woman with guns and brute force over a DOG THAT DIDN’T DO ANYTHING WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Help The Pawz Cauze and ROVERlution convince Denver to drop their Pit Bull Ban and begin punishing the DEED not the BREED!  Below you will find the email addresses to the Denver city officials.  Thank you for your help.

Also joining us today was Richard Weber, our resident Animal Astrologer.  Time sure flew by as we discussed Jazz with my new friend “Purple Jack”, as well as did readings for our newest born kittens so we can do a write up about their personalities for anyone interested in adopting them when they are ready.

Mark your calanders because Richard will be back with us on November 1, 2008.  If you want us to discuss your pet then we need the name of your pet as well as the Month, Day and year your pet was born.  For a more accurate reading we would need the time, town, and state or country the animal was born in.  Also to compare your compatability with your pet, we will need your month, day, year, time, town, state or country of your birth.  You can join us by calling our show’s number during the time the show is live or you can join me in the chat room at www.radiogetswild.com and click on the “chat room” button to enter the chat room.  You can also reach me during the show by using Yahoo Messenger ID rgwonair.

LIVE Coverage of Protest to Free Forrest in Denver

icon for podpress  Protest to free Forrest [22:28m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

Once again the spotlight is on Denver, Colorado, Forrest the dog held captive, and his owner, Chris; an innocent man who thinks of his dog as his ’son’.  Join us as DJ Ice speaks with Dr. Paula Terifaj and Chris LIVE at the protest.  Hear as Chris tells his chilling tale of how Forrest was stolen the first time he ended up across the Denver city line and how DENVER forced him to keep his dog locked in a kennel.  Now Denver is holding the dog and threatening to euthanize him over the Breed Ban Legislation they passed several years ago that has since resulted in the deaths of hundreds of family pets only because they were guilty of being the wrong breed.  Forrest has never hurt anyone.  Chris doesn’t even reside in Denver.  His place of residence is recorded as being in Adams County; yet Denver feels the need to confine this dog and KILL him!

You hear the words, then you make your decision, then take action.  Don’t allow prejudice to win.  Stand up and be heard.  Stand up for Forrest.  Demand that he be returned to Chris.

Please feel free to pass this along and gain as many supporters as possible to stop Denver from killing this dog!  Thank you.  Below you will find the emails to the city officials and mayor.

Verizon Wireless talks to the press about comments on their commercial and+ this is my response

Visit http://adage.com/article?article_id=129799 to read the scoop.  Don’t forget to read the comments about the article.  They should really ruffle your feathers!!!!  Mindless whiney people thinking that Pit Bulls are vicious, again, playing into the hands of the ignorant!  Especially the one who was attacked by a pit bull.  I was attacked by 2 trained German Shephard dogs when I was 6 years old.  Even at that young age I knew it wasn’t the fault of the dogs but the fault of the owner.  This victim claims that the dog that attacked her was owned by a nurse and not trained to attack!  BULL CRAP!!!  That dog was probably not socialized or given the attention that a dog needs; or even abused.  ANY dog will turn mean if not properly socialized or abused!  The “nurse” appearantly lived alone so the dog was left alone 90% of the time.  NOT SOCIALIZED!!!!!!  Stop whining and blaming the breed.  I’m sick to death of hearing about Pit Bulls being vicious and mean when it ALWAYS boils down to how it was raised!!!!!!!

I have saved thousands of pit bulls and I know guys who bust up Pit Bull fighting rings WEEKLY and I nor any of them have EVER been bit by a Pit Bull!  I’ve been bitten by cats, wildlife, gerbils, hamsters, birds, chihuahuas, pomeranians, and other small breed dogs but I have NEVER been bitten by a Pit Bull.  My best friend was but that was because she was breaking up a dog fight (2 rescued dogs) and hit the pit bull over the head with a cast iron skillet!  She ended up calling me to help break the dogs up and I never got bit!

I deal with thousands of people on a daily basis who have rescued pit bulls whom have NEVER been bitten!!!!  So this garbage the press is trying to pass off as proof of Pit Bull aggression is full of dog piss!

The dogs being pit bulls are not the only issue that is raised in the concerns of the commercial, but also the fact that the commercial shows the dogs chained with no food, water or shelter.  Verizon Wireless wishes us to believe that the commercial is “fake” or “fantasy” but there is nothing “fake” or “fantasy about chained dogs.  Dogs Deserve Better works very hard to educate people about chained and penned dogs.  Fact is that a chained or penned dog is 100% more likely to bite a child or turn on people due to lack of socializing.  This is a FACT, not fiction or fantasy!

Also, look at the statistics about pit bull attacks.  Better yet, I’ll make it easy for you!  Here are the statistics, the FACTS:

Those are the hard cold facts about pit bulls.  If you can’t deal with it then BACK OFF THE BREED!!!!!!  If you can’t handle the truth about chained dogs then BACK OFF those of us who truly wish to make a difference!
