This is Dog Rebel, Leigh Foster, here to tell you all about this week’s guest, Dr. Paula Terifaj, Packleader for ROVERlution.  We discussed the horrors of Breed Specific Legislation and how each and every person can help bring an end to such laws.  We also discussed the discrimination homeowners who have ‘bully’ breeds are facing from certain insurance companies.  This is information that every single dog owner/lover needs to know.  It is time we take a stand and fight for the rights of our ‘bully’ breeds!  Once again I am going to refer to the report that was released by American Temperament Test Society, Inc.  I have it posted on my blog http://blog.myspace.com/thepawzcauze if anyone is interested in taking a look at it.  Please feel free to copy it and spread it around or even make copies to pass out.  We also need to send copies of this report to insurance companies that are discriminating against certain breeds of dogs.

How many of you have kept up with the battle between the Walmart in Huntington Beach and Service Dog, Chloe the American Pit Bull Terrier and her caretaker Gina Pettrow?  Well, here’s the scoop straight from Gina’s mouth.  Hear exactly what happened prior to Gina being confronted and asked to leave the store, what was said, and how she was treated.  Learn how YOU can help your own community end their predjudism against the breeds catagorized as a “Pit Bull”.  Learn why it was against the law for the manager to ask Gina to leave the store with Chloe; then jump on the band wagon and help make a difference!

We are also putting out a call to others with disabilities that have been discriminated against because of the breed of your dog!  If you are disabled and you have been asked to leave any store, then we want to hear from YOU.  Please contact Gina via her web site and tell her your story.

While doing some research, I came across a very interesting article.  It is called the American Temperament Test which was conducted on nearly every breed known to man.  I don’t care if you are for or against Breed Specific Legislation, EVERYONE needs to follow the link and check out their findings.  ESPECIALLY check out the results for the American Pit Bull Terrier!  The results WILL shock you.  I will be placing a copy of it on this site all on its own page for everyone to view.  Please feel free to copy it and pass it on!

Now, just to be fair, I did write Walmart a letter and they did respond.  However, they will respond to me, but they won’t even tell Gina and Chloe that they are sorry!?!?!?!?!?!  Although I can’t legally post their reply here (at the end of it it stated that it was intended only for the “recipient) but I can quote from it!

It starts off saying that the policy of Walmart states that they “allow a service animal, defined as a guide dog, a signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability, in its stores and clubs.” It goes on to say how store management reviews the policy with their employees so that “customers with disabilities who need a service animal can always feel comfortable shopping at Wal-Mart.”  They still refuse to acknowledge that there has been a major violation of THEIR policy or how they intend to rectify the situation”.

Who says that clicking a link is a waste of time?  It turned out to be a goldmine for me!  That is how I found my new friend, Randy Turner Attorney at Law.  Then to top it all off, he mostly works in the field of animal law defending activists and people like me who want the best for animals.  We had so much to talk about that we ended up having a 1 hour 20 minute show!  This is also a kickoff show for Randy’s new monthly commentary Pawz Lawz which will be posted right here on our web site.

So get to know Randy, his law practice, his views on the new Animal Control Legislation Chapter 91 that was recently passed in Louisville, KY.  Also find out how you can fight that legislation if you happen to disagree with it.

We also learned all about the Texas Humane Legislation Network, why they were established, and what their goals are for Texas legislation.  You’ll be amazed at the current Texas laws on animal cruelty and such.

For a show that was supposed to be all about cat grooming, we sure did get off topic alot!  We ended up going over our 1 hour time limit by 15 minutes because we were discussing several very good topics!  We discussed the idiocy of Breed Specific Legislation, cat grooming dangers, and raw feeding with our special guest Sara Garthly, owner of A Breed Apart Pet Salon.

Sara has been doing grooming since 1984 and loves to groom cats.  She also has a beautiful Rotti that she gave me permission to show off.  This is a photo of her beautiful RAW FED baby boy:
